Chicken Sopas for the Reader's Bowl

Sumo-sized

This is a picture taken back from our family trip in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago. It was at a local wax museum we went to. At first, we thought it would be boring, but, to our surprise, the experience at the wax museum was actually pretty fun. Not only did we enjoy ourselves treating all the wax models as if they were the real celebrities, but there, I finally did something I've always wanted to do - wear one of those sumo costumes you see on TV. (And, even my dad played along! He's the one on the right of the wrestler).

This silly desire of mine was granted once again days after we came back to the Philippines, when I attended the recent Ozinefest at SM Megamall. They had an activity there where instead of big ol' sumos, people had to dress up like those Porings from Ragnarok and wrestle with an opponent. I chose to post the battle between Kamae and Anjo of PKMNph, instead of mine with Homer, because their fight was very amusing. Anjo was very aggresive, but the girl won at the end. I, too, lost since Homer was practically twice my weight. Well, at least, we all looked cute. :)

I never really got to rave about this ('cause of Internet problems last time), but I was so amused, I just had to post it sooner or later. The wrestling part, though, was just one of the many highlights of both events. The time in Hong Kong and at OzineFest were a blast.

A special thanks to Patrick for the poring picture.

Don't Take a Bath on a Friday

You read that right. You shouldn't take a bath on a Friday. Actually, there are more dates bathing mustn't be done. This is according to a book I once read entitled Don't Take A Bath On A Friday, a compilation of Philippine superstitions and folk beliefs. I am personally not a follower of these type of things, but I'd thought today would be a nice time to talk about such since it is not only a Friday, but one on the 13th.

Presidential Adviser on Culture and the Arts Cecile Guidote-Alvarez said superstitions and folk beliefs “are part of our community consciousness. You can’t totally cut yourself off from your roots.”

“We may reconcile them with modernity without losing our grounding and links to the community,” said Alvarez.

However, she warned that “some of these folk beliefs and rituals can draw us into some retarded state.”

“It’s really up to our judicious selection and what still works this time and age … You must know when to evolve or devolve and move forward,” Alvarez asserted.

That was a portion off an article from INQUIRER.net. I think it was well-stated. I don't need to say anything else except remind those who are guided by these beliefs to not forget about God. It is His Rules that are the most important to follow.

Anyways, I know you are interested to find out, so here are some of what the book said when not to take a bath:
  • Don't take a bath on a Friday.
  • Don't take a bath in the afternoon.
  • Don't take a bath in the evening.
  • Don't take a bath on the first Friday of the month.
  • Don't take a bath on a Good Friday.
  • Don't take a bath on New Year's Day.
  • Don't take a bath on the feast day of St. Lazarus.
  • Don't take a bath on the thirteenth day of the month.
  • Don't take a bath when you are hungry.
  • Don't take a bath after eating.
  • Don't take a bath before gambling.
  • Don't take a bath after going to church.
  • Don't take a bath when there is a rainbow. And,
  • Don't take a bath during a full moon.

I wonder just how many people actually follow this. Would you?

Revamp!

I was suppose to leave this blog and carry on with a new one, but that didn't turn out too well. Now, I'm back at ol' Chicken Sopas for the Reader's Bowl. I don't have a problem blogging here, but I guess things around this joint could improve. I'll try to make this a better-looking blog, but it'll be done slowly. After all, I'm no Patrick when it comes to these things.

I'll start doing that some time, but not right now. After all, it's -- oh my, 5:30 A.M. in the morning! The sun's already up and ugh, I am still, too. I better go to bed now.
